Homeopathy

What is homeopathy?

A Western system of medicine that is based on the principle that ‘like cures like’ — that is, the same substance that in large doses produces the symptoms of an illness cures it when administered in very small doses. Homeopathic physicians believe that the more dilute the remedy, the greater its potency. Therefore, homeopaths treat illness by using small doses of specially prepared plant extracts and minerals to stimulate the defence mechanisms and healing processes of the body.

This system was developed by Samuel Hahnemann towards the end of the 18 th century, based on the understanding that healing comes from within, from the body’s innate self-healing forces.

What happens during a treatment?
Your first visit will begin with a consultation where which the practitioner takes a thorough medical history, recording as much information as possible about your physical and emotional self. Homeopaths are interested not only in the physical symptoms of illness but in mental, emotional and spiritual disturbances within the person. During a consultation, therefore, the practitioner may encourage you to talk about your family, dreams, recurring thoughts, fears, emotional upsets or traumas before recommending an appropriate remedy.

The recommended remedy will be individualised based on the in-depth consultation and will aim to remove the root cause of your ailment.
